■ Bottas has now won twice in Sochi – he only has multiple race wins at one other track, the Red Bull Ring in Austria (2017, 2020). It was meant to be the race where Lewis Hamilton made history by matching Michael Schumacher’s 91 Grand Prix wins. Instead, that will have to wait after Hamilton's Mercedes team mate Valtteri Bottas laid claim to the most important numbers in Sochi, including a maximum 26 points for victory plus fastest lap.

■ While the start to his Red Bull career hasn’t been as smooth as he might have liked, one thing that’s always impressed about Alex Albon is his racecraft. And after pulling off some scintillating overtakes to claim his maiden podium at the Tuscan Grand Prix, the Thai driver reflected on his burgeoning F1 nickname: ‘Mr Round The Outside’. Behind him Ricciardo took fourth place, with Pérez fifth. McLaren’s Lando Norris finished sixth ahead of AlphaTauri’s Daniil Kvyat, while Leclerc was eighth for Ferrari. Räikkönen managed to hang to a points finish with ninth place despite incurring a five-second time penalty for a pit lane infringement and the final point on offer went to Vettel who sealed a double points finish for Ferrari at its 1000th grand prix.

An incredible 90th career pole for Lewis Hamilton.
■ Lewis Hamilton has been making history since he entered Formula 1 in 2007 – and 13 years later, he’s on the brink of matching one of the biggest records in the sport. Should he secure victory in Sochi, he’ll move onto 91 career wins, to equal Michael Schumacher’s tally….

■ Gasly’s win was also a first for a Frenchman in F1 since Olivier Panis won at Monaco in 1996. The win comes just a week on from an emotional weekend for Gasly in Belgium, where he took a fine eighth place and driver of the day honours, having begun that weekend laying flowers in honour of late friend Anthoine Hubert – his fellow Frenchman who died at Spa-Francorchamps on the same weekend Gasly returned to AlphaTauri following his disappointing demotion from Red Bull Racing.
■ It was a 'beep' day says Verstappen as he retires and Red Bull fail to score at Monza.

FORMULA ONE Brazilian GP 2019

Max Verstappen wins wild race in Brazil and Pierre Gasly nets first podium. Two laps to go when the race restarted, Hamilton tagged Albon, leaving him to finish P14, while Gasly was able to hold off Hamilton in a drag race to the line to claim his own first podium in F1 – with the stewards later handing Hamilton a five-second penalty for his part in the Albon incident, which ultimately dropped him to P7. A great day for Carlos Sainz saw him make it from P20 at the start to P4, before later getting promoted to his first top-three finish after Hamilton's penalty. He finished ahead of the Alfa Romeo pair of Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi, with Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo sixth, Hamilton seventh, McLaren’s Lando Norris eighth, while Racing Point’s Sergio Perez and the second Toro Rosso of Daniil Kvyat rounded out the top 10.
